Last night, as part of an outing sponsored by my kids’ day camp, I went with my family to a Newark Bears (of the independent Can-Am baseball league) game.

When my 11-year-old son said “Dad, my friend just told me Robinson Cano is here,” I laughed and explained that there was no way the Yankees All-Star and 2011 Home Run Derby champ was attending this most minor of minor league games.

“Are you sure, Dad?” Yes, I was sure. But as we learned around the 3rd inning, one of the 1035 fans in attendance was Cano. Turns out his friend plays for the Bears.

Lesson re-learned: don’t be so sure!
